27 February 2009, Baa. Atoll Education Center students visits to Pearl Farm in Thulhaadhoo Island and Olhugiri Protected Area. The students engaged with AEC project and Marine Research Center staffs to learn about the pearl farm and  Olhugiri Protected Area.Student recorded their observations and are to compile a report of the field trip.

AEC project staffs gave information on conservation of biodiversity and existing threats to biodiversity in the Maldives. Students were also told how they can contribute towards conserving biodiversity and how grassroots action can contribute toward a broad vision of conserving biodiversity.

 
Goidhoo Agriculture Project Launching PDF Print E-mail

20 February 2009, AEC project and the implementing partner of the Goidhoo Agriculture Project Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture meets with the local community of Goidhoo Island to launch the project officially.

In the meeting community was briefed on the project activities and was consulted on their views.

February 2010, In an event organized by the Environment Department findings of the economic valuation study was presented to major public and private corporations in the Maldives.

Apart from the presentation other materials associated with the study was also disseminated to the participants.

 
Environmental Law Enforcement Training to Police PDF Print E-mail

2nd February 2010, AEC project meets with Maldives Police Service to incorporate a module on environmental law and its enforcement into the training course of police.

In the meeting it was agreed that the project will be giving support in  developing the module and training of trainers in the Police Training Academy.

 
Exposure trip to Noonu. Kedhikulhdhoo PDF Print E-mail

January 2010, A group of 12 peoplefrom Baa. Thulhaadhoo who are involved with the pearl culture project visited Noonu. Kedhikulhudhoo Island. The purpose of the trip was to learn about the cooperative society established in the island by the locals. The team was accompanied by the acting Atoll Councilor, UNDP Maldives, MRC and AEC project.



The cooperative society established in the island is one of the very successful ones established in the Maldives.   This society owns an auto- pot system that harvests a good quantity of honey melons to the resort market for the last three years and was initially a set up UNDP Maldives.
