October 2009, Management plan for marine turtles in Baa Atoll has been drafted and sent out for stakeholder comments. Objectives of the turtle management plan for Baa atoll is to provide a mechanism to promote and ensure the long term survival of each turtle species population, including the sustained recovery of depleted stocks, the safeguarding of critical habitats (marine and terrestrial) and maintain the requirements of the human populations in which they interact.

Information detailed in the plan was developed through community stakeholder discussion in Baa Atoll government representatives and residents, Baa atoll resort staff, the national government ministries (Ministry of Housing Transport and Environment & Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources) and their research entities (Marine Research Center and Environmental Protection Agency) and the scientific literature provided to the project.
